About Dr Jonathan Nsamba
Dr Jonathan Nsamba is an epidemiologist and public health expert with over eight years of experience in public health, community medicine, and population-level research in low-resource settings. He has completed doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate training across India, the United Kingdom, and Uganda, and has postdoctoral research experience in South Africa.
His research focuses on cardiometabolic health, hypertension, and population-level risk factors, integrating advanced epidemiological methods, biomarker-based research, and health systems perspectives. Jonathan works with universities, NGOs, and development partners to translate evidence into policy-relevant outputs, programme design, and measurable health impact, with a strong emphasis on practical, context-appropriate solutions in Africa and other low-resource contexts.

Community Empowerment
I design and support community-based public health and nutrition programmes that address population-level risk factors, strengthen healthy dietary practices, and improve nutrition-related health outcomes. My work emphasises community engagement, equity-focused programme design, and alignment with health systems, ensuring interventions are culturally appropriate, scalable, and sustainable. These programmes are developed in partnership with local stakeholders to support long-term improvements in community health and well-being.
Youth Health Initiative
I develop and lead education, community engagement, and behaviour change initiatives to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce risks associated with cardiometabolic conditions, HIV, and teenage pregnancy. Through my work with Hope Springs Health Foundation Uganda, I support programmes that empower adolescents, especially girls aged 12–14 to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, understand the risks of cross‑generational relationships, and stay in school. These initiatives integrate health literacy, participatory community outreach, and prevention‑focused strategies tailored to low‑resource settings, with the goal of improving both individual and community well‑being
One-on-One Academic
Tutoring / Capacity Building
I provide advanced research mentoring and capacity-building support for postgraduate students, early-career researchers, and programme professionals working in public health and medicine. This support is designed to strengthen research design, epidemiological analysis, academic writing, and evidence translation.
My mentoring approach focuses on building independent research competence, supporting thesis and dissertation development, strengthening grant and proposal writing, and guiding the translation of research findings into policy- and practice-relevant outputs. Capacity-building activities may be delivered through one-to-one mentoring, small group sessions, or institutional workshops, depending on organisational needs.
